I think the author is flipping through his secondary school year book. He remembers all the special moments in secondary school and misses them. he vividly remembers all the happy and unhappy times. Such as the times when he was very irritated when singing the national anthem and the times where he saw the Malay chaffeurs waiting for some students outside the gate telling jokes to each other. And he also rememebers the part where during a Chinese language MCQ his best friend did a 'heroic' thing by answering all 'A's for the paper. All this the writer misses beacause he has no chance to experince this all again and he cannot be young again. There were also times which made these days one of the happiest in his entire life.
I share the same sentiments as the author. Being curious and somewhat superstitious, we tried a lot of funny things when we were young. There were moments where we got scolded or punished. Yet these are the moments which we rememeber the best and most vividly. There were times we tried to play pranks on our teachers , some worked while others did not. Some got us a good laugh while others gt us a earful.
As the papers came down the row
The students bit their lips in excitement
There were screams of triumph
There were moans of defeat
Mission Acomplished
